The Book of Disquiet

“Everything around me is evaporating. My whole life, my memories, my imagination and its contents, my personality - it's all evaporating.

I continuously feel that I was someone else, that I felt something else, that I thought something else.

What I'm attending here is a show with another set. And the show I'm attending is myself.”
― Fernando PessoaThe Book of Disquiet

Memories from another Life.
Just finished this fancy pair. The focals are recycled glass african beads, wire wrapped in oxidized steel and copper, adorned with fluorites, rumanite and rubies ~ real ones, from my awesome Mom.

That's it for today, have a lovely evening!

See you soon! xoxo

The Ancient Beauty of Rumanite ~ Romanian Amber

I've always loved amber and I was very happy when my wonderful Mom and my lovely Sis, who sent me a whole bunch of very old, awesome things from Romania, included the gorgeous amber chips that I have used in the ring and the pair of earrings below.

The Magic Tears of Ancient Forests
And because I am always curious about everything, I decided to do a quick research on Romanian amber.

Hand forged copper ring, natural patina...

Romanian amber, or Rumanite, has an ancient history similar to that of Baltic Amber. It is known for its beautiful and varied colors, especially deep red and deep blue with green hues which are uncommon  natural colors for amber. Mine look like liquid sunsets in tones of orange and honey.

...two-tone Rumanite soldered on copper wire.
Difficult to obtain at present, most of the Romanian amber originates from the locality of Colti.

It has been recovered from two distinct geological formations:Cretaceous and Tertiary (Eocene-Oligocene) , millions of years ago, when forests thrived and our world looked kinda like this... both images are in the Public Domain. Reference: LIFE IN AMBER by George Poinar Jr.

Amber from the Carpathians is said to have been used in Neolithic times by the Dacians and later by the Romans. There are many myths surrounding the origin of amber. In Greek mythology, Ovid wrote about Phaethon, who convinced his father Helios, the Sun God, to allow him to drive the chariot of the sun across the sky for a day. He drove too close to the earth, setting it on fire. To save the earth, Zeus struck Phaethon out of the sky with his thunderbolts, plunging him into the sea. His sisters (the Heliades, the daughters of Helios, the Sun), turned into poplar trees on the bank of the Eridanus River,
Where sorrowing they weep into the stream forever...And each tear as it falls shines in the water a glistening drop of amber.
My two favorites, Rumanite and Opals, in oxidized brass frames that have been hammered and textured by hand.
"Before and after" applying the texture on the surface of the brass.
Liquid Sunshine

Still working on these earrings, I feel like they're still missing something.

My inner critic is not quite happy with them yet. :)

You can read more about amber HERE. I hope you enjoyed it!

See you soon!

Pantone Color Of The Year ~ ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY

As I'm sure you've heard, for the first time in history, for 2016 Pantone named two shades at their Annual Color of the Year announcement: Roze Quartz and Serenity.

Shades of Pink and Blue say you? Say no more...I've got this!

Rose Quartz and  lilac shells...

Rustic polymer in shades of pink and blue...I handpainted them with acrylics and Jacquard pearls.

Ceramic focal beads...

Rose Quartz hearts...

Pale pink and lilac Lucite beads...

Iridescence magic.

 The Pink stash...

Light Blues...ceramics and a round lucite focal .

Glazed ceramic focal beads...

Serenity...Lucite and a nice aqua stone bead that you can't see well because it's all blurry, down right.

 My own rustic polymer beads...

And all this....

...and all that. I'm getting sleepy. it's almost 2am. Goodness gracious, I should go to bed.

Tibetan silver flower caps, I have bought like 500 of these.....I love taking pictures :)

...That's it! Oh look, the blurry aqua stone you couldn't see in the other picture, I got it in this one, it's next to the Rose Quartz focal...you see it. Should I sell this for...$20? A Pantone Soup?? Or use it and make more $$...what do you think..? Too sleepy to decide.

 Good night! :)

☆ Manuscript Found in Accra ☆ words to live by ☆

I am going to think of this day as the first day of my life.

I will look on the members of my family with surprise and amazement, glad to
discover that they are by my side, silently sharing that much talked about but little
understood thing called love.

I will look at everything and everyone as if for the first time, especially the small
things that I have grown used to, quite forgetting the magic surrounding them.

Instead of noting down things I’m unlikely to forget on the piece of parchment I
always carry with me, I will write a poem. Even if I have never written one before and even if I never do so again, I will at least know that I once had the courage to put my feelings into words.

Tonight..., I’m going to spend time sorting through the pile of things I never had the patience to put in order. And I will find that a little of my history is there.
And even the things I am accustomed to—like the sandals which, after long use, have become an extension of my feet—will be clothed in the mystery of discovery.

Since I am heading off into the future, I will be helped by the scuff marks left on my
sandals from when I stumbled in the past.

May everything my hand touches and my eyes see and my mouth tastes be different, but the same. That way, all those things will cease to be still and instead will explain to me why they have been with me for such a long time; they will reveal to me the miracle of reencountering emotions worn smooth by routine.

I will drink some tea that I have never tried because others told me it tasted horrible. I will walk down a street I have never walked down before because others told me it was totally without interest. And I will find out whether or not I would like to go back there.

If it’s sunny tomorrow, I want to look at the sun properly for the first time.
If it’s cloudy, I want to watch and see in which direction the clouds are going. I
always think that I don’t have time, or that I don’t pay enough attention. Tomorrow, though, I will concentrate on the direction taken by the clouds or on the sun’s rays and the shadows they create.

Above my head exists a sky about which all humanity, over thousands of years, has woven a series of reasonable explanations.
Well, I will forget everything I learned about the stars, and they will be transformed once more into angels or children or whatever I feel like believing at that moment.

Time and life have given me plenty of logical explanations for everything, but my
soul feeds on mysteries. I need mystery. I need to see the voice of an angry god in a
rumble of thunder, even though many of you here might consider that heresy.
I want to fill my life with fantasy again, because an angry god is far stranger, far
more frightening, and far more interesting than a phenomenon explained by the sages.

For the first time, I will smile without feeling guilty, because joy is not a sin.
For the first time, I will avoid anything that makes me suffer, because suffering is not
a virtue.

I will not complain about life, saying, “Everything’s always the same and I can do
nothing to change it.” Because I am living this day as if it were my first and, while it lasts, I will discover things that I did not even know were there.

Cross Stitch Treasure and Things That Make You Happy

I've got my hands on this little Cross Stitch Treasure. I don't cross stitch but it was so pretty, I decided to buy it for my Etsy shop. Even if I'm not going to make a big profit out of it, I need more items for sale. I might open a supply shop soon. I have a ton of stuff that I have never used and I keep buying more ~ help, I'm turning into a hoarder! Anyways, here is a preview of the cross stitch treasure :)

All of them brand new! Pretty cool, hu? I know you cross stitching divas can't wait to get your hands on them, I knooow...No worries, I'll put them up for sale in a few days, just for you. I'm on vacation until Sunday, when my Mom leaves. Family first. Business second. Everything else is bits in between. Being around the people you love and doing what you like for a living are the two most important things in life, I believe...and that's all I'm going to focus on from now on. It's all I need to be happy. :)

 See you soon!
