Vintage Beauties

Hi guys, how have you been? All is good, I hope! :)

I'm really excited about this new pair of earrings, let me tell you a little bit about it: these adorable fish charms are articulate, very moveable and flexible, made of 14K gold, hallmarked. Where did I get them from? My Antique Lady!

I did some research on them and found out that they were made circa 1900-1920s ~ 100 years old!?! They have two intact Red Ruby Round Cut Gems set as the eyes in a four prong setting and their price is about...$99 a piece, wow! Here for $99 , here for $360, this one is bigger, not so many details though. Here's a similar fish for $798 (!!) 9K gold from 1890!

How do they come up with these prices, I wonder..? $798 for a 9k gold fish from 1890, my fish are from 1900-1920, about 10 to 30 years younger, that would make them worth...well, it's art, I guess you could price it anywhere. Supply and demand. Just give me $200 for them and we're good. Kidding. Or not. What should I ask for them? Guys? Any ideas, anyone??

I paired them with freshwater pearls and these two faux coral beads I made from polymer clay. The faux coral beads have no paints, no sealants, they're just polymer straight out of the oven! Why don't I seal my polymer beads? Because polymer clay experts say that it's not necessary. Check this out:

"People often want to seal their polymer clay creations for protection against the elements or from damage during use. In most cases this is unnecessary. Once it’s been properly baked or cured, polymer clay becomes a durable solid plastic that is waterproof, shock resistant, and fairly tough. Because it’s such a durable material, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that it’s actually more durable than any sealer that you will put on it. Sealers, varnishes, and finishes do have their purpose, but bare clay itself does not need to be sealed for protection." Read more here.

It took me a while to get the coral color right, but I think I got it. So pretty!

What else? I have listed these:

I have so many cool vintage pieces, my question is, should I open a separate Etsy store for them? A Feeriee13 Vintage maybe? The problem with my present Etsy store is that I have opened it in 2012, as a customer, not a seller, but now that I make and sell jewelry I think it looks bad that in all this time I have only one sell. Four years, one sell. I sold a pair of earrings to a friend of mine, an artist from Canada, his art is so amazing, I was so thrilled to have him as my customer! Anyways, my store was empty all these years, but people don't know that...Gosh darn, maybe I should just write it down in caps and clarify it once and for all : HEY PEOPLE, MY STORE WAS EMPTY ALL THESE YEARS THAT'S WHY I ONLY HAVE ONE SELL! NOT BECAUSE MY JEWELRY SUCK, BECAUSE THEY REALLY DON'T, THEY'RE AWESOME!

Any other ideas? What should I do? Should I open a new store??

  1. Hi Laura. I have no idea how you should price your fish earrings, but I think they're very elegant. Etsy is great for finding unique items. Perhaps, you could make some sort of note on your store, so customers would understand it had been empty for a while. :)

  3. When I saw these fish pair on ig this morning, I was speechless! They are simply gorgeous and so elegant.
About your shop,I had the same feeling on my own shop for awhile and I wanted to open a new shop. But a very talented jewelry designer, which is a friend of mine, told me that,I will lost all people who favorited my shop. When I opened my shop on etsy,it was empty for almost two years. Plus now, even if some people favorited your items or your shop, this does not longer bring much visitors on the shop. That's what I noticed recently. Etsy has changed over the years.
You should try to write something about it or if you really think that doesn't work then, you should find another name.
Instead of a new shop, I changed my business name. I still don't sell much!
You sure make wonderful and unique jewelry. I love your style very much! :)

    1. That's so true, it's so hard to bring traffic in my Etsy shop...maybe I should start creating those treasury lists?! And you're right, I wouldn't want to lose my Etsy followers...I was thinking about opening a store on Ebay as well, and give it a try ~ I think I'm going to do it, at least for my vintage stuff. Also, Artfire is a good website for jewelry, worth giving a try...I'm so glad that you liked the earrings!! :-D Thank you sooo much, I love your work too, but you know that already!:) Have a lovely Sunday, stay inspired!! xoxo

  5. The fish are just gorgeous! I don't know what to charge for them, but I do think you might want to open a new Etsy store for your sales.
